“Why would God allow the old prophet to deceive the young prophet and use the same prophet to pass judgment on the young prophet?”
#The Answer.
“And it came to pass, as they sat at the table, that the word of the Lord came unto the prophet that brought him back: And he cried unto the man of God that came from Judah, saying, Thus saith the Lord, Forasmuch as thou hast disobeyed the mouth of the Lord, and hast not kept the commandment which the Lord thy God commanded thee, “1 Kings 13:20-21 (KJV)
It emphasizes hearing from God directly based on His Word.
Whatever voice we hear from God must be established by His Written Word.
God instructed the young prophet directly to leave his own town and go to Judah and do some specific assignments.
Prophesy to the altar.
Don’t eat or drink.
Return through a specific route.
God would have promoted and rewarded him if he had followed the instructions.
Suppose he heard all these instructions from God directly and heard it clearly that he could repeat them to the King ( remember, he turned down the King’s offer of gifts) So when the old prophet emerged. In that case, the best he could have done out of respect for the old prophet was to tell the old prophet to wait and let him ask God again. (God, is it you that send these new instructions?) God would have answered him and said No, or God would keep quiet.
Sometimes, when God has spoken clearly, He does not often speak when we doubt Him or second-guess Him. In any case, when he prayed to God to restore the withered hand of the King, God heard him and restored the King’s hand. So he could have asked God about the new information from the old prophet. The fact that the old prophet could lie and speak for God with the same mouth confirms 2 scriptural principles.
1. Test every spirit.
2. God’s gifts are without repentance.
That is, don’t take everyone at face value.
Backsliders can prophesy and do miracles.
Check with the Holy Spirit.
Know No man after the flesh.
Again the young prophet could have cried to God in genuine repentance.
After all, he just interceded for the King.
It was the Destiny of the young prophet that was at stake.
